Sunglasses were a type of glasses with dark lenses, designed to protect the wearer's eyes from bright sunlight.

History[]

In 1985, when Marty McFly arrived in Doc's garage, he wore Zeiss aviators with mirrored lenses. Two members of Needles' gang also wore sunglasses.

George McFly wore sunglasses in the improved 1985 to which Marty returned following his first trip to 1955.

When Dr. Emmett Brown returned to 1985 from 2015, he wore video glasses which looked like silver wraparound sunglasses and contained an internal video display.

In 1985-A, 3-D wore customised sunglasses with red and blue lenses, like the 3-D glasses he wore in 1955.

In 1955, Marty wore a pair of dark sunglasses as a part of his 'inconspicuous' disguise.

Behind the scenes[]

  • On the theatrical posters of Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II, Marty and Doc both raise their sunglasses and look at their watches.
  • George McFly's wearing sunglasses in Back to the Future Part III was in reality to disguise the change in actor from Crispin Glover to Jeffrey Weissman, after Glover refused to return for the sequels due to salary disputes.
