In 1943, Mrs. Gomez rented an apartment to Emmett Brown, who was a professor at the California Institute of Technology. Doc convinced Robert Millikan, the president of Caltech, to arrange an interview with Major General Leslie Groves and Vannevar Bush. They were searching for scientists to join the top secret Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb. He had a disastrous interview, and walked past Schwab's Pharmacy to try to think about how he could get a second chance. To his surprise, he was given a position on the project.
Behind the scenes
- The three businesses that Doc passed (Fox Pasadena Theatre, Schwab's Pharmacy, and Reliable Radio) were actual businesses in real life California in 1943.
