Oak Ridge was a city in the United States state of Tennessee. It was the site of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which was created in 1943 for the purpose of advanced nuclear research as part of the Manhattan Project. The United States Army set professor Marcus Irving up with a lab at Oak Ridge for the purpose of temporal research. He worked at his lab, alone, from 1962 until the project was terminated in 1984 due to the fact that he never developed more than a prototype time machine.
