Italy was a country in Europe. Italy was the country that invented pizza, in the 10th century. By the 20th century it became one of the preferred meals of the McFly family, and was one of Verne Brown's favorite foods.

In 1931, in Hill Valley, California, the Bank of Italy had the word Italy partially removed, as the Bank of Italy had been renamed the Bank of America in 1930.

In the alternate timeline where an elderly Biff Tannen brought a sports almanac from 2015 to 1955 to make himself rich, Marty McFly played with his band in the Italian city of Venice, as well as Switzerland and Austria, by 1986.

In 1991, Doctor Emmett Brown mentioned that Marco Polo brought noodles back from his visit to China in 1295, thus introducing Italians to pasta.

Also in 1991, Doc Brown traveled to Rome, Italy in 36 to return some architectural plans, and brought Marty along. His sons, Verne and Jules stowed away in the DeLorean, as they mistook their father's comment about Roman architectural arcades for video arcades. Marty, using the alias Marticus, was challenged to a chariot race by Bifficus Antanneny, and was told by Doc that he had to lose, since Antanneny was the popular athlete that was instrumental in the fall of Emperor Caligula, and ultimately the fall of the entire Roman Empire.

In 1993, Doc Brown traveled to Pisa, Italy to take a picture of himself in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, so he could hang the photograph in his chicken restaurant.
