Back to the Future comic books published by IDW Publishing[]

IDW launched its Back to the Future comic series on October 21, 2015, the same date that Doc, Marty and Jennifer visit in Back to the Future Part II. Originally planned to be a four part mini-series, the popularity of the comics meant that IDW decided to continue the series, with a new comic coming out monthly.

The original four comics were subtitled Back to the Future: Untold Tales and Alternate Timelines, and consisted of two short stories "filling in" events from before and during the trilogy, such as how Marty met Doc or what happened to Biff after he stole the DeLorean. From Issue 5, the comics told one story per issue. Stories are now mostly spread over several issues.

There have also been two side series: Citizen Brown, which adapted Telltale's Back to the Future: The Game into a comic; and Biff to the Future. which explored the 1985-A timeline.

Another miniseries was announced in 2020, crossing Back to the Future over with The Transformers series which IDW has published comics for as well.
