Huey Lewis and the News are an American rock band that was founded in 1979. They enjoyed mainstream success primarily in the 1980s. Through the years their formation changed a bit. The original lineup of the band consisted of Huey Lewis (Vocals, Harmonica), Sean Hopper (Keyboards), Bill Gibson (Drums), Johnny Colla (Guitar, Saxophone), Mario Cipollina (Bass) and Chris Hayes (Guitar). They were one of Marty McFly's favorite bands.
Behind the scenes
- They contributed the songs "The Power of Love" and "Back in Time" to the soundtrack of the first Back to the Future film. Lead singer Huey Lewis also makes a cameo appearance as one of the judges at the Battle of the Bands were The Pinheads auditioned for at the beginning of Back to the Future.
- In the original screenplay for Back to the Future Part II, the band was supposed to play a song of theirs that was popular in 1989, the year the movie would eventually come out. While this was eventually scrapped in the final script, they did ultimately release one minor hit single, "Give Me the Keys (And I'll Drive You Crazy)," that same year, although it was originally from an album that came out in 1988.
