Happy Trails was a film quote from Westerns, used by cowboys to wish each other a safe journey.
History
The younger Emmett Brown shouted "Happy Trails" at the Pohatchee Drive-In Theater on November 16, 1955, as Marty McFly accelerated past him in the DeLorean time machine to travel back to 1885.
Behind the scenes
- In the novelization (see Quote above), after calling "Happy Trails, Marty", Doc adds "Vaya con Dios!" which means "Go with God!" in Spanish.
