Robert Zemeckis (born May 14, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American Academy Award-winning director, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and producer who directed and co-wrote (with his writing partner Bob Gale) all Back to the Future films.

Other than the Back to the Future trilogy, Zemeckis is widely known for directing successful films such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director), Contact, The Polar Express and a 2009 adaptation of A Christmas Carol (which is also the film's title).
Some of his films, such as Back to the Future Part II, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump and The Polar Express, are characterized by the use of state-of-the-art special effects.

- In the first issue of the Back to the Future comic by Harvey Comics, there was a wanted poster in 1927 for "Robbin" Robert Zemeckis.
- In BTTF: The Animated Series episode "Verne's New Friend", one of the owners of the Bob Brothers All-Star International Circus, Robert Brothers was a reference to Zemeckis.[1]
- In Back to the Future: The Game, a reference to Zemeckis is made in the form of Law Offices of Gale, Zemeckis, & Fine.
- Zemeckis himself became part of the BTTF universe when the October 22, 2015 issue of USA Today announced that he would be directing and co-writing a remake of the film version of A Match Made in Space [2].
