Pepsi 2015

A Pepsi Perfect bottle at Cafe 80's.

" Marty decided he should close his mouth and do what the Doc told him he should. / "Uh —" he managed. "Could I have a Pepsi?" / He held up the fifty. / "Cash?" the screen — now once again in Reagan's image — replied doubtfully. "Well, it's much easier to just use your thumb —" / "My thumb? Huh?" Marty looked stupidly at his hand. "Uh, no, look, I'll just pay cash." / "Well, there's a handling surcharge on cash, but — " The Reagan-thing hesitated, as if truly considering Marty's plight. "— well, OK, we'll take cash." / The video creature pointed toward a tray on the counter. Marty placed the fifty there. It was instantly sucked out of sight. There was a quick series of electronic beeps and a small panel whirred aside, revealing a covered, see-through plastic cup with the words PEPSI PERFECT. / "And your change," Reagan's image continued cheerfully, "rounded off to the nearest five dollars." / A crisp, new five dollar bill shot out of another slot. Forty-five dollars for a Pepsi? This really was the future. "
—From Back to the Future Part II by Craig Shaw Gardner (quote, page 29)

Pepsi Perfect was a vitamin-enriched variety of Pepsi cola that was sold at the Cafe 80's in 2015.

History[]

Pepsi Perfect was sold in bottles that had a lid with a built-in straw. However, when Marty McFly had first seen the soft drinks container, he was perplexed as to how exactly he was supposed to open it.

Dr. Emmett Brown had given Marty a $50.00 bill to purchase the soda.

Behind the scenes[]

  • On the Cafe 80's menu, Pepsi Perfect is priced as only "2$" as opposed to the $45.00 Marty pays in Craig Shaw Gardner's novelization.
  • Doc never mentions at any time on-screen that a Pepsi costs $45.00; he simply says "Go in [the Cafe 80's] and order yourself a Pepsi. Here's a fifty" as he hands Marty a $50.00 bill.[1]

Actuality[]

  • Ironically, while Pepsi has yet to produce a vitamin-enriched variety of their soda, their rival Coca Cola has already done so, which is known as Diet Coca Cola Plus.
  • Pepsi Perfect is basically an equivalent to the real-life Pepsi Max.
  • A possible leaked diagram of a Pepsi Perfect bottle was sent to Futurepedia and posted on September 23, 2015.
  • On October 5, 2015, Pepsi announced that they would be releasing a limited quantity of Pepsi Perfect bottles, some of which were given out to lucky attendees of New York Comic Con dressed as Marty McFly, while other attendees were able to win one by playing Wild Gunman. Fans located in the U.S. were also told they would be able to buy one of 6,500 bottles presented in a special collectible case from Amazon.com on October 21, 2015, for $20.15.[2] The limited edition bottles weren’t exactly the same as the ones in the movie, however, since the bottle shape and logo had been tweaked, the lid was screw-on, and they contained 16.9 ounces of Pepsi made with real sugar rather than a new Pepsi Perfect recipe. A video commercial released by Pepsi and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to coincide with the announcement and promote the 30th anniversary release of the trilogy featured the bottles and other Back to the Future Part II merchandise.[3]
