George McFly's agent negotiated the rights to turn George McFly's bestselling novel, A Match Made in Space, published by Probert Publishing[1] in 1985, into a movie.

On March 3, 1986, George was on the telephone with his agent. According to the agent, Robert Zemeckis wanted to turn the book into a movie, but George said that he didn't feel that the guy who directed Romancing the Stone was the right person to direct it, and told him to continue shopping it around to other directors. A Match Made in Space was later made into a movie in 1989, by an unknown director, and bombed at the box office.
Almost thirty years later, in 2015, it would appear George had a change of heart about Zemeckis, as the October 22 issue of USA Today reported that Zemeckis would be directing the remake of A Match Made in Space, and would also be co-writing the new adaptation with George.[2]
