Jacques Douteux was a famous diver from the Oceanic Institute, who created the bathysphere (likened by Marty to a diving bell). He would go underwater sometimes to get away from fans.

Biography[]

Sometime during 1931, Jacques Douteux agreed to attend the first Hill Valley Science Expo and demonstrate his bathysphere. During October 13 of that year, he presented his invention in the underwater exhibit, Enlightenment Under the Sea.

Jacques Douteux's Exhibit

Jacques gave Marty a ride in the bathysphere, as well as pointing him to Emmett Brown and Citizen Brown as they went into Atlas House of Glass.

Sometime afterwards, Citizen Brown took over the exhibit and got into Jacques Douteux's suit to hide his younger self. What he did to the real Jacques was left unknown.

Behind the scenes[]

Jacques Douteux appears to be a reference to the real-life oceanographer Jacques Cousteau.
