Football, also known as American Football outside of the United States or Canadian Football outside of Canada (where "football" or "association football" is the common term for soccer), as well as gridiron football, or simply gridiron, is a sport where the object is for one of two teams of eleven players aim to take an oval shaped football into the area surrounding the goalpost, while the other team defends their goalpost by blocking and tackling the opposing team.

In 1931, Emmett Brown told Marty McFly that he played football, and his quickness earned him the nickname of "the streak".

On November 12, 1955, an elderly Biff Tannen traveled from 2015 to give his younger self a sports almanac that would give him the results of sporting events for the next 45 years, allowing himself to bet on the outcomes and get rich. When the teenage Biff didn't believe that the book was real, the elderly Biff turned on the radio and correctly predicted the outcome of the college football match between UCLA and Washington.

Turf Club football

The Turf Club takes bets on football games.

On November 13, 1955, Biff drove his grandmother to Las Vegas. He was repeatedly trying to get his grandmother to bet on NFL football matches for him at the Turf Club since the legal age to gamble was 21, and at 18, he was underage. He gave her a twenty dollar bill that he stole from a table to his grandmother to bet on the Chicago Bears. She didn't bet on the Bears, and they lost against the Los Angeles Rams, making Biff twenty dollars poorer. Biff told her to make another bet, on the Washington Redskins. However, when they beat the San Francisco 49ers, she only gave Biff back his twenty dollars, and kept the rest for herself.

In 1993, Doc Brown traveled to Wisconsin on December 31, 1969 to watch the NFL championship game. He stood at the goal line in the final moments of the game and declared a touchdown. Doc hung a black and white photograph of this moment at his chicken restaurant.

By the 21st century, football had become international, and the IFL was created. The Chicago Bears now were in the IFL rather than the NFL, and played against the Spacers on October 21, 2015.
