Cleveland bill

The 1914 U.S. $20.00 bill, as seen in Doc's money suitcase.

Grover Cleveland (March 18, 1837 - June 24, 1908) was the 22nd and 24th President of the United States. He served two non-consecutive terms. He first was elected president in 1884, succeeding Chester A. Arthur. He then lost the presidency to Benjamin Harrison, but won it back in 1892.

He was the American President both during the period that Marty visited in 1885 to rescue Doc Brown, as well as the point in 1893 when the Doc completed his Time Train and departed with his family to upgrade the time machine and reconnect with Marty and Jennifer.

At the Hill Valley Festival in 1885, Elmer H. Johnson sold Colt Peacemakers for twelve dollars. He claimed that the action on the new model was "smoother than the finest whiskey in President Cleveland's liquor cabinet".[1]

Cleveland was added to United States currency in 1914, on the $20.00 bill. In 1928, the $20.00 Cleveland bill was replaced by one featuring Andrew Jackson, and Cleveland was moved to the $1000.00 bill. In 2020, the Jackson $20.00 bill was replaced by one featuring Harriet Tubman.

When he traveled back to November 12, 1955, Doc Brown had several $20.00 bills adorned with Grover Cleveland's portrait in his money suitcase.[2]
