- "It was right in front of him."
- —Maggie McFly
"Far out" was an expression used in 1985, usually with the same meaning as "totally awesome".
Marty McFly said this in 1885 when he saw the name "Frisbie" on a pie plate, and Seamus and Maggie McFly had no idea what he was talking about. Marty would probably have drawn the same reaction from his contemporaries in 1985.
Behind the scenes
- The phrase, although popular in the 1960s and early 1970s, was as archaic as "groovy" by the mid-1980s.
