- "Doc's rifle looked like a Winchester, except it had some sort of special addition. The inventor had rigged up some kind of telescope on top of it, not some little sight, but a full-size telescope tied to the top of the rifle."

- "I shoot the fleas off a dog's back at 500 yards, Tannen, and it's pointed straight at your head!"
- —Doc Brown
Doc's sniper rifle was a customized Winchester 1866 "Yellow Boy" rifle owned by Dr. Emmett Brown in 1885, which he had converted into a sniper rifle by the use of a large telescope that he had mounted to the top of the gun as a sight.
Doc used the rifle to shoot straight through the rope that had been hanging Marty McFly, thus ceasing the celebration of Buford Tannen and his gang. He then pointed it directly at Buford's head and threatened to blow it off unless his boys dropped their weapons and released Marty.
Although Doc claimed that the rifle enabled him to "shoot the fleas off a dog's back at 500 yards", much to the relief of any dogs that happened to be around Hill Valley at the time, he did not put this to the test.
